Supporting Young Musicians with School of Rock Calgary

Grassroots ProgramsAugust–September 2026
From the Foundation

Music gives young people a way to pursue an interest through practice and performance. In 2026, we supported that opportunity through the School of Rock Calgary & Douglasdale House Band. Together with the WISE Scholarship Program™, our Foundation announced support for the band’s planned Pacific Northwest Tour and celebrated a Calgary performance by its young musicians.

Support for a five-day tour

Our August announcement looked ahead to a five-day tour with performances at venues in Canada and the United States. The planned itinerary offered the House Band an opportunity to perform beyond its home community and gain experience in different settings.

Our support reflects a belief that meaningful learning includes experiences outside the classroom. The tour was intended to give the musicians opportunities to develop their confidence, creativity and skills while pursuing an interest they had already committed time to practising. We wished the band well as it prepared for those performances.

Celebrating the musicians in Calgary

In a separate update shared in September, we looked back on attending a School of Rock performance in Calgary. Seeing the musicians on stage gave our team an opportunity to appreciate the work they had put into the show.

The performance also gave a local expression to our support. As sponsors, we were there to encourage young people pursuing their musical interests and to recognise their preparation. We were pleased to share photographs from the show and congratulate all of the performers.

Learning through an interest

Our community work includes support for experiences that give young people room to explore what matters to them. Here, the focus was music: opportunities to perform, to develop skills and to take part in an experience with fellow musicians.

The House Band’s planned tour and the Calgary show illustrate the kinds of opportunities we are pleased to support. We thank School of Rock Calgary & Douglasdale for its work with these musicians, and the performers for sharing their effort and enthusiasm with an audience.
